Tip #48 How will you reward yourself for accomplishments this year and next?

30 years ago when I became at a track selling instructor, I was impressed with the principle of rewarding ourselves when we accomplish goals that are important, difficult, or even boring and mundane.

The emotional result is that rewarding ourselves keep us buoyant, resilient and engaged.

Without occasional rewards, we can become resentful and burned out.

A study conducted years ago of CPAs showed that accountants tend to have the shortest life expectancy among white-collar professions after retirement. Why? Because when they accomplish task # 1, they go on to task 2, then 3, etc, with no rewards in between. And on and on and on as a career life style.

They did not have a reward system built in for themselves. As a result, they stay nose down and grinding until retirement. By then, there's not much ketchup left in the bottle and they join the ranks of the dearly departed. Ouch.

Choose rewards that would be meaningful to you as a pat on the back for a job well done.

Set aside a few minutes each day this week and define some self-rewards between now and year-end and into 2021.
