In scorching summer heat, how do you adjust?

Recall a 1960's popular song lyric from the Lovin' Spoonful:

"Hot town, summer in the city.

Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty.

Been down, isn't it a pity

Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city.

All around, people looking half-dead

Walking on the sidewalk, hotter that a match head."

One of life's realities - and irritations - is feeling "hot under the collar". Those feelings are provoked by summer heat. July temperatures confirm that this summer's heat wave is unprecedented. How do you keep your poise in the heat of the day?

When life heats up, here are 3 suggestions.

#1 Cut yourself some slack. Heat saps energy. Reconcile yourself to the conditions. It's just plain hot. We all feel it. Take life a little slower. From personal experience while enduring a summer in Paraguay, you need to pace yourself when the heat is on.

#2 Encourage others. It's true that misery loves company. It's also true that we appreciate empathetic friends when we feel lowly. We'll all get through this. This too shall pass. Things just work out.

#3 Express gratitude daily for the good things accomplished today, what you hope to accomplish tomorrow, and air conditioning.

Hang tough, summers come to an end.

Good luck and good selling.
