Who is your mentor?

Reconnecting with old mentors and friends to express heartfelt gratitude isn’t just an act of kindness—it’s good medicine for the heart, both emotionally and physically. In an increasingly busy and digitally saturated world, it’s easy for meaningful relationships to drift into memory. But when we circle back to thank mentors who’ve impacted our lives, something powerful happens.

Gratitude triggers positive physiological changes in the body. Studies have shown that expressing thanks can lower blood pressure, reduce stress hormones, and improve sleep.

It activates the parasympathetic nervous system—our "rest and digest" mode—helping the heart relax and restore. And when that gratitude is aimed at someone who once mattered deeply in our early years of selling, it multiplies the emotional effect. We rekindle warm memories, reinforce our sense of connection, and foster belonging, all of which are linked to lower rates of depression and cardiovascular issues.

On the flip side, silence can leave old wounds lingering. Maybe we parted ways awkwardly or just let life get in the way. Reaching out to say “thank you for being there” can heal unseen emotional bruises for both people. It validates shared history, makes us feel appreciated, and revives parts of ourselves that may have been dormant.

Social and business reconnection also boosts longevity. Long-term studies suggest that strong social ties are one of the most significant predictors of a long, healthy life—more than exercise or diet alone. Gratitude reopens those ties, reminding us we’re part of something bigger than ourselves.

In short: thanking old mentors and friends is a small act with big ripple effects. It strengthens relationships, calms the nervous system, mends emotional gaps, and nurtures the heart—literally and figuratively. So go ahead—send that message. Your heart will thank you too.

Good luck, good selling, and good healing!
