Remember times in your career when you thought you couldn't go on, but did? How did you overcome?

Brad Lowder, Sr VP at FamilySearch International, cited a recent study discussing important elements in raising healthy and resilient children. One of the best ways to help the rising generation is to give them an awareness of the ups and downs - what Lowder called the oscillating narratives - in the lives of their parents and grandparents. Without knowing the ups and downs in their family history, a generation is raised untutored in the "practical wisdom" to cope with progress and setback.

In other words, it's helpful for youth to learn of their ancestors' rising narratives of success and falling narratives of failure...and that their forebears kept going, kept trying. That's the oscillating narrative.

If you are a sales leader, the same can be said of you informing those in your stewardship of personal obstacles and barriers and what was required of you to overcome them. It's an inspired - and inspiring - leader who shows the way to overcome difficulty.

In the poetic words of Rudyard Kipling's poem entitled If: "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors just the same...or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, and stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools..." etc.  You get the point.

During the pandemic, COVID-19 cast a falling narrative for many sales people. Yet many continue to keep going, to keep trying. They write their oscillating narratives by rising up.

BRAVO! We hope you're writing a rising narrative. Share it with the rising generation.

Again from Kipling,

"If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

Yours is the earth and everything that's in it."

Carry on and keep striving.

Good luck and good selling.
